WHO WE ARE:

Prairie Village is an 87 unit complex made up of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms units situated at 235 Meadow Lake Way Brooks, Alberta.  This affordable housing initiative is owned and operated by Brooks Housing Society.   Income guidelines apply and eligibility is based on combined income for all adults living at the site.

The goal of the Brooks Housing Society is to provide quality, secure, and affordable housing.  The Society strives to ensure that all tenants are treated fairly and equitably and that appropriate regulations are applied consistently.

 

MISSION:

The Brooks Housing Society will be recognized as a leader in the planning, development, operation, and support of appropriate, not for profit housing for individuals and families in life situations that restrict access to “for” profit housing in the Newell Region.

HISTORY:

  • Registered November 28, 2007 with the Province of Alberta as  “Brooks Housing Society”

Phase I

  • Phase I – Province of Alberta grant received for the first build $ 1,950,000.00.  Total cost of the 39 unit project $ 4,005,585.00. The project was built on land leased from the Town (City)of Brooks

  • Phase I completed in 2002

Phase II​

  • 2008 - Brooks Housing applied through the City of Brooks for an Alberta Government Affordable Housing Grant, $ 5,784,782.00 was received. 

  • Applying to the Alberta Real Estate Foundation, we received a grant - $ 74,250.00 towards the building of the project and appliances for the laundry rooms.

  • Phase II completed in July 2009. The units were fully occupied by Oct 1, 2009.
